Growing up I was always socially awkward. Heck, even now I have episodes where I feel my old anxiousness return and I have to remind myself how far I’ve come. Like any other struggle it’s a battle I find myself fighting everyday. Some days I want to hide and avoid social interactions all together but I think we both know that is no way to live. In choosing to live I developed the following list to help myself and others with improving their social lives and break out of their proverbial shells.

The Best Social Tip for Socially Awkward People

As we’ve established, I definitely know what you’re going through and the best tip I can give you is to tell you to be up front about your situation. What I mean is, be open about the fact that you are socially awkward. It allows others to utilize empathy, it provides a serious conversation starter and lastly it removes a lot of the actual awkwardness due to the spot light on the elephant in the room.

Normal people are empathetic by nature and they want to see you succeed, even more so they want to HELP you succeed! The number of self-help books and YouTube guru’s is astronomical and frankly they all come from a place core in the human brain that says, “I have beaten a thing, now let me show others how to beat that same thing!” Think how when you figure out how to beat a certain boss in a video game and run to tell your friends that are struggling on that same boss how you did it. Sure, you want the bragging rights but more importantly you want to help a fellow human stop struggling.

My point in all this is to say, Don’t be afraid to ask for help. In a way this exercise is secretly just another way to get you talking and acting social.

How To Ask Others For Help Socially


The concept of asking for help is easy but the act is the hard part. If you are like me when you get nervous you talk faster, you start sweating, you may even shake a little bit. All of this normal. My suggestion to combat these reactions is to fail. Through failure you will ultimately succeed. Essentially, you have to go out and practice talking to strangers. Pick easy topics like asking for the time or asking a fellow nerd where they got that cool shirt.

Today Pokemon Go is an easy topic to break the ice with. I myself have met dozens of people this way and while at times it was awkward, it worked! Don’t be afraid, the more you do this the more comfortable you will be. In time the conversations will be easy and before you know it you will be ready to ask people what you really want to. Small talk is the little brother of conversation. Start with small talk and proper convos will follow.

The final Tip I will leave you with is really just encouragement. You absolutely can do this. It may seem hard but with determination and belief in yourself you can do anything. Awkwardness doesn’t feel like a choice but is and when you embrace it for what is, this when you will be set free from the supposed trappings of the awkward life style. Good luck!

Tips to Reduce Stress and Anxiety for Saiyans

I wanted to highlight stress and anxiety tips as they relate to not only humans but anime characters as well because I am a somewhat pathetic man-child. Just kidding, I’m not pathetic but rather I A creative master mind that you should donate money to. Plus, I thought it would be more fun to interweave narratives to something surrounding a nerdy niche vs just telling you how to live your life-like some unemployed life coach. The model in this motivational video is Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super.  He’s a vertically challenged, envious, angry man obsessed with being the best and constantly falls short of that goal. The twist is he is also an alien and was born with a monkey tail. If you know Dragon Ball then you know that’s not the real twist but instead rather the twist is despite all of Vegeta’s short comings he actually has an extremely great life but is too busy being stressed out to take notice.

How Stress and Goku Defeated Happy Vegeta

Before I dig into what makes Vegeta’s life great let me explain who he was BEFORE he came to earth and before he met Goku, the hero of earth that is the source of most of Vegeta’s rage. If you dial back time, when Vegeta was first introduced he was an evil space villain that smirked all the time, laughed at his own jokes and had no qualms about destroying entire planets. He loved what he did for a living AND you could tell by the expression on his face.  Needless to say aside from the forced slavery, he loved his life…AND THEN HE MET GOKU.

Shortly after meeting Goku, Vegeta all of a sudden became extremely petty and angry. He lost his smirk and rarely did anything that wasn’t yelling or proclaiming his distaste for anything that wasn’t blue spandex. You see, Goku despite not being an elite warrior was stronger than Vegeta and old Veg-Head couldn’t take playing second fiddle. He lost much of his original personality and enjoyment of life. He no longer laughed and is not characterized by his trademark scowl. He may no longer be evil, but it could be argued that he’s also no longer happy because of the way he has let the pressure, stress and anxiety affect his life.

This has happened to such a degree that even though Vegeta now currently has a healthy adoring child, a hot wife, a billion dollar corporation and unlimited financial resources, he’s still walking around with clenched butt cheeks because he can’t let go of the idea of being lesser than Goku.  He never took any steps to de-stress or focus on the achievements he has made since landing on this planet. The guy has a cush life and probably doesn’t even realize it. The guy could be enjoying his life over 9,000 times more if he just stopped and smelled the roses.

Reduce Stress Now

I get it though. Not all stress is things we can just stop focusing on but I implore you to do any and everything you can gain control of your situation. If you can’t do that, try to focus on the other things in your life so the stress doesn’t overwhelm you.
